CREEK FISHING.

Creek Fishing In The Mountains Of Colorado

Tributaries like Cottonwood Creek, Clear Creek, and our own Chalk Creek offer anglers a more intimate fishing experience and a degree of solitude that comes with moving higher into the San Isabel National Forest. At these elevations, one can find cutthroat and brook trout in addition to the rainbows and browns found in the mainstem of the Arkansas River nearby. The river, and the tributaries too, all have their source along the Continental Divide of the Sawatch Range and the Collegiate Peaks. From Monarch Pass down south, to Leadville in aptly named Lake County up north, this high country is home to hundreds of alpine lakes and ponds. Though typically only ice-free from late June through September, the high lakes of the San Isabel nevertheless form a highly productive fishery known for its wild cutthroat populations.
